On Tuesday morning, the city of Camagüey woke up to a bold protest message painted on Cristo Street, nestled between Santa Catalina and Bembeta. The phrase "Down with Communism" was prominently displayed, expressing a strong dissatisfaction with the Cuban regime and its leaders.
A Facebook user under the profile name "ElMatero Cubano Uy" shared the message, noting it was painted during the early hours right in front of Santa Catalina Street. The user humorously remarked that it was part of a series called "Paint Your Little Spot."
This incident is not an isolated one; recent months have seen multiple expressions of dissent against the ruling party, led by Miguel Díaz-Canel, who many blame for plunging the nation into poverty and failing to deliver on promises. In March, a massive sign appeared in Matanzas after a day of intense protests on March 17th. The message, "Díaz-Canel singao," was visible from a considerable distance.
An anonymous contributor to CiberCuba shared a photo depicting the large wording on the wall of the well-known Playa del Tenis, located on the city's viaduct. This event occurred in the early hours of Monday, shortly after a significant protest erupted in Cárdenas, Matanzas. In that demonstration, locals took to the streets, banging pots and pans, joining other protests happening simultaneously across the island.
Prior to that, graffiti had already been spotted in Havana and Artemisa, even amidst reports of military presence on the streets. Pictures shared by Periódico Cubano revealed a house wall in La Víbora, Diez de Octubre Municipality, sporting the phrase "Patria y Cambio C13."
In San Antonio de Los Baños, Artemisa Province, tensions escalated following a day marked by anti-government posters on various electric poles. These flyers declared "Zero Day" and called for the liberation of the country from those who have driven it into destitution.
Additional messages proclaimed that "Cuba First is a national movement for a free tomorrow where we build a prosperous future for everyone and for the benefit of all."
