A Cuban woman living abroad recently took to TikTok to share her experience about a trip back to her homeland, disclosing the significant expenses she faced to both enjoy her stay and bring gifts to loved ones. The video, which has captured the attention of thousands on the social media platform, features the woman, known as Melissa, providing an approximate breakdown of her spending, noting that the actual figure might be even higher.
"If I start telling you everything my husband and I spent in Cuba, I'd be here talking all night," Melissa remarks in the video posted on her TikTok account (@melissahernand407). She elaborates that the budget can vary depending on the purpose of the trip, whether it's for tourism or visiting family. In her case, since it was her first time traveling to Cuba, she wanted to take "everything" for her family, which significantly increased her expenses.
Melissa estimates that she spent around $5,000 in total, taking into account all costs: from airfare and pre-trip purchases to expenses incurred on Cuban soil. "It depends on your budget and the number of family members you have," she clarifies, emphasizing that each situation can differ. However, she also mentions that after factoring in her stay at a Varadero hotel and other additional costs, the total might have actually ranged between $6,000 and $7,000.
Economic Strain of Visiting Cuba
Melissa's revelation has sparked discussion among TikTok users, who comment on the financial reality faced by those wishing to return to Cuba and support their families amidst the country's economic crisis. The video highlights how, for many, visiting the island isn't just an emotional reunion but also a significant financial sacrifice.
