Cuban outfielder Yasiel Puig, famously nicknamed the "Wild Horse," has decided to prematurely end his winter league season with the Tiburones de La Guaira in Venezuelan baseball. This decision comes in light of a contract offer for the year 2025.

Puig shared his sentiments on Instagram, acknowledging the support from fans: “With deep admiration and affection for the fans of La Guaira and all of Venezuela, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for your support and acceptance of this humble madman who only wanted to bring the best to the sport,” Puig wrote.

A New Chapter for the Former MLB Star

Once a standout in Major League Baseball (MLB), Puig explained that his choice to leave the season was driven by his new team's request. The team has asked him to step away from play this winter to focus on preparations for his upcoming contract.

While Puig did not disclose whether the new deal is with a team in the MLB, Mexico, or Asia, the Cienfuegos-born player stressed that it is a tough but necessary decision at this point in his career.

Reflecting on Past Success

It's worth noting that Puig was instrumental in La Guaira's championship win during the 2023-24 season and their successful run in the Caribbean Series. Despite his departure, he made it clear that this is not a permanent goodbye. Puig expressed his desire to return to Venezuela to continue supporting the Tiburones in their quest for another title.

With this announcement, a lingering question remains: will Puig make his way back to the Major League Baseball system?
