The Cuban Aviation Corporation S.A. has announced the resumption of air services at the Havana Airport, as well as those in Varadero, Cienfuegos, and Villa Clara, starting at noon this Thursday, November 7, 2024. This decision brings an end to the temporary suspension that disrupted air connectivity in the western part of the island following the passage of Hurricane Rafael.

Initially, flights to Cuba were halted as a precautionary measure to safeguard both passengers and airport infrastructure. This suspension was in place from Tuesday until midday Thursday. The suspension particularly affected the international airports in Gerona, Cayo Largo, Havana, Varadero, Santa Clara, and Cienfuegos, as previously reported.

Efforts to Ensure Safety During the Crisis

During this emergency, authorities coordinated to ensure the safety of travelers and Cuban aviation workers. Passengers who had flights scheduled during this interruption are advised to directly contact their travel agency or airline to reschedule their trips, aiming to minimize the disruption caused by this meteorological event.

Reorganizing Flight Schedules

The Cuban government has assured that airlines are adjusting their operations to accommodate all affected passengers. The reopening of Cuban airports comes with a warning to remain cautious and to follow the authorities' guidance, especially regarding potential adjustments in flight schedules due to the reorganization of operations.

Impact of Hurricane Rafael

The flight suspension was a direct response to Hurricane Rafael, which hit western Cuba with heavy rains, dangerous winds, and high waves, reaching a Category 3 hurricane classification. As the cyclone moves away from the island's territorial waters, the country is expected to gradually return to normal in the coming days.
