Members of Lama Cuba, a group passionate about classic motorcycles and motor touring, have recently delivered aid to the San Antonio del Sur municipality in Guantánamo, one of the areas hit hardest by Hurricane Oscar last October. "LAMA Cuba is proudly showcasing our brotherhood and humanity by bringing donations to the municipality of San Antonio del Sur, Guantánamo, recently affected," the group shared in a Facebook post.
The classic motorcycle fans posted several photos displaying the aftermath of the hurricane in Guantánamo, alongside images of them interacting with the residents of San Antonio del Sur. Their presence brought a ray of joy amidst the many hardships faced by the community.
Community and Solidarity in the Wake of Disaster
Following Hurricane Oscar's impact on the region, numerous individuals, including activists and entrepreneurs, mobilized their efforts to support affected families. Among them was mattress maker Víctor Escalona, who announced via social media his intention to donate several beds to those who lost everything to the storm.
Johanna Jolá Álvarez, along with her team from the solidarity initiative Huellas, also sprang into action by organizing a donation drive. Their campaign aimed to gather as much aid as possible for the devastated families.
Global Cuban Community Steps Up
The Cuban diaspora also played a significant role in providing assistance. A Cuban truck driver from Tampa donated a toolkit to a young man in San Antonio del Sur, who had become a local hero for rescuing a family. This donation enabled him to continue his recovery efforts following the hurricane's devastation.
