The skilled Cuban infielder César Prieto made a remarkable entrance into the Dominican Winter Baseball League on Wednesday night, donning the uniform of the Águilas Cibaeñas. Prieto, affiliated with the St. Louis Cardinals organization, showcased his talent by going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, solidifying his role as a crucial addition to his team.
According to journalist Francys Romero on Facebook, the 25-year-old athlete should capitalize on the benefits of playing during the winter season to aim for a Major League call-up by 2025. On the social media platform X, the Águilas praised the performance of the Cuban native, with many experts viewing his participation in the league as a golden opportunity to enhance his international profile and carve out a career in professional baseball.
It's worth noting that in 2021, shortly after arriving in the United States, Prieto parted ways with the Cuban national team during the Pre-Olympic Baseball Tournament held in Florida from May 31 to June 5. At that time, the Cienfuegos-born player was among the top talents remaining on the island. However, he chose to showcase his skills in pursuit of a professional contract, which he secured months later with the Baltimore Orioles, who subsequently traded him to the Cardinals.
