Dayamí La Musa, one of the trailblazers in the Cuban urban music scene, has made it clear that she has no intention of collaborating musically with any of her fellow Cuban artists currently making waves in Miami. In an interview on the podcast "Destino Tolk," the Cuban singer discussed her stance on this matter and her position in the urban music genre.
When asked by one of the podcast hosts, "If La Diosa, Seidy La Niña, or Srta Dayana approached you for a collaboration, who would you choose and why?" Dayamí's response was immediate: "I think women tend to complicate things a lot, we're more emotional, and that's why I believe this genre sometimes overwhelms us because there's so much mess involved. I honestly wouldn't work with any of the three right now."
The Pioneer Speaks Out
"It's no secret that I was the first in this, the one who kicked off this genre," she continued. "I was around long before people recognized me as an artist, and I know how it works. I've never sought credit for that, in fact, I don't have credit on the songs that became hits because of me or my work on them, nor did I ask for it," she added.
Dayamí asserted, "I'm truly in my place, I've always been in my place, and I believe I haven't been respected in that sense. Not that I've needed it, but I do think they need to approach me, and maybe then a collaboration could happen."
Maintaining Professional Relationships
The singer mentioned that she has maintained good relations with all of them thus far, even noting that at one point, Seidy reached out to her for a collaboration, though nothing materialized. Dayamí emphasized that she doesn't belong to the group of artists who enjoy stirring up controversy, particularly on social media.
