The state-run Electric Union (UNE) has announced that nearly half of Havana's power circuits, severely impacted by Hurricane Rafael, have been restored. The hurricane caused significant damage to the national electrical system's infrastructure. As of Saturday, UNE reported that 164 circuits are operational, serving 413,188 customers, 25 hospitals, and 6 water supply sources. This represents a recovery of 48% with an output of 312 MW, according to their social media updates.
Despite the hurricane's departure from Cuba, much of Havana was still shrouded in darkness the previous evening. A statement from the Havana Electric Company on Friday revealed that of the 337 primary distribution circuits under maintenance, 305 had been inspected. Service was restored to 143,468 customers across 50 circuits.
Progress in Restoring Essential Services
Eight hospital circuits and two water supply circuits had their power restored, reaching a recovery rate of 15.1%. The statement also noted the identification of 90 fallen utility poles, with 30 located in the Plaza and Cerro municipalities. This update is part of an ongoing story.
