Teresa Padrón, the manager of the late Cuban reggaeton artist El Taiger, has called upon fellow artists to back a signature campaign aimed at urging the Miami-Dade prosecutor to charge Damián Valdez-Galloso with first-degree murder.
In a heartfelt Instagram story, Teresa expressed, “Today, I am reaching out to all artists to please unite and assist me in gathering signatures for the justice that José deserves.” She continued, “I urge you to share the petition link in your stories if possible. We need everyone's support for this cause. I ask for unity in the name of God and for José.”
The petition, launched last Friday, demands that authorities charge Damián Valdez with first-degree murder. Currently, he is facing a second-degree murder charge, which the petition argues “does not fully capture the severity and intent of this crime. This classification diminishes the loss suffered by the family, friends, and community of José Manuel Carvajal.”
Numerous Cubans in Miami have rallied behind the petition, seeking justice for the beloved reggaeton artist, and it has already gathered over 24,000 signatures.
Looking ahead, Damián Valdez's next court appearance is set for November 22. Teresa voiced her concerns over the possibility of the accused pleading guilty to receive a lighter sentence.
