A powerful earthquake rattled the province of Santiago de Cuba on Sunday morning, causing widespread alarm among residents. Many turned to social media to report the intensity of the tremor. As of the writing of this article, no official statement has been released by the National Seismological Service of Cuba, and their website is currently down, making it impossible to provide precise information on the earthquake's magnitude and epicenter.

Reports indicate that the quake was felt in several municipalities within Santiago de Cuba. It is also possible that the tremor was experienced in the neighboring provinces of Guantánamo and Granma. Independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada suggested on Facebook that the earthquake's magnitude was approximately 6.0, though this figure has yet to be confirmed by official sources.

Meanwhile, Aris Arias Batalla, the head of Operations and Relief for the Red Cross in Santiago de Cuba, corroborated the severity of the event. "Extremely strong and perceptible earthquake in Santiago de Cuba at around 10:51 a.m. EXTREMELY STRONG," Arias Batalla posted on social media, noting the approximate time of the quake.
