The recent earthquakes that shook eastern Cuba have particularly devastated the province of Granma, capturing the nation by surprise with their unsettling impact. The aftermath is evident in haunting images from various municipalities including Pilón, Campechuela, Media Luna, and Niquero, located along Granma's southern coast. These photos vividly portray the destruction and fear that have gripped the streets of these communities.
Yudelkis Ortiz, the Secretary of the Communist Party in Granma, revealed on the Midday News that the tremors were felt across all municipalities in the region. She emphasized that areas such as Bartolomé Masó, Buey Arriba, Guisa, Pilón, Jiguaní, Media Luna, and Campechuela are taking precautions against possible landslides prompted by the aftershocks.
In addition to the structural damage, reports from Pilón, Niquero, Media Luna, Campechuela, and Bartolomé Masó indicate the collapse of several power poles, exacerbating the chaos and highlighting the region’s vulnerability to such natural disasters.
