Miami officials have issued a statement to reassure residents amid concerns about potential aftershocks affecting the city, following earthquakes that struck eastern Cuba on Sunday morning. "The City of Miami is aware that some residents in the Brickell/Downtown area may be worried about the recent earthquake off the coast of Cuba. However, we want to assure everyone that NO earthquakes or aftershocks are being felt in Miami. The US Geological Survey (USGS) has not detected any effects in South Florida, and no warnings have been issued," the city communicated via social media.

Additionally, it was noted that the city's Fire Department has responded to calls from concerned residents, prompting officials to emphasize that there is no reason for alarm. "Both our Fire Department and Building Department are closely monitoring the situation, and all safety protocols are in place," they assured.

An earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale occurred at 10:50 a.m. Sunday, with its epicenter located 48 kilometers southeast of Pilón in Granma province, Cuba. A subsequent aftershock was recorded at 12:49 p.m., reaching a magnitude of 6.7 on the Richter scale, surpassing the initial tremor.

These seismic events have caused concern among the population and prompted authorities to activate emergency protocols. The National Center for Seismological Research (Cenais) reported that the second quake had a depth of 10 kilometers and was felt in the eastern provinces of Guantánamo, Santiago de Cuba, Granma, Las Tunas, and Holguín, as well as in Camagüey and Ciego de Ávila.

As of now, there have been reports of material damage but no confirmed fatalities.
