On Monday afternoon, a Cuban couple found themselves under fire in Guatemala City, reportedly by armed assailants attempting a robbery. A woman, approximately 55 years old, sustained injuries during the incident.
Local media reported that the victims were traveling in their vehicle when the attackers started shooting. One of the bullets struck a window of the car. The incident took place in an area known as Colonia La Reformita, Zone 12.
In response to the attack, the couple sought assistance at a nearby Fire Station located on Bulevar Liberación, where emergency responders provided aid, according to Guatemalan media outlets. Carlos Hernández, spokesperson for the Municipal Firefighters, stated that the woman, who was wounded in her left arm, was transported to Roosevelt Hospital and was in stable condition.
While the couple was understandably shaken by the ordeal, they did not require hospital admission at the time. The identities of the couple have not been disclosed.
The fire department shared details of the assistance provided via their account on X, including the extent of the damage caused by the bullets to the windshield and windows of the vehicle. According to the couple, the perpetrators attempted to steal their belongings and fired shots at them twice.
The authorities are currently investigating the attack to uncover more about the circumstances and to identify the individuals responsible for the crime.
