A Cuban immigrant residing in the United States has unveiled a piece of advice that significantly impacted her journey in a new country. This insightful counsel comes from Marlan, an esthetician known on TikTok as @marlan_estudio. According to Marlan, the advice, given by her aunt, has been instrumental in helping her adjust to life in the U.S.
"When I arrived in the United States, the first piece of advice I was given was to forget about Cuba and put the phone aside. And yes, it works," Marlan shares in her video. Her aunt advised her to minimize video calls and conversations with people back in Cuba. Instead, she was encouraged to invest that time in learning about the American system and engaging in activities that foster personal growth.
Embracing Change and Seizing Opportunities
While acknowledging the difficulty of leaving family and friends behind, Marlan emphasizes that relocating to the U.S. should not be about wasting time. "The system is not going to change," she notes, pointing out that attempting to alter it would be futile. Instead, she advocates for adaptation and seizing the available opportunities by surrounding oneself with successful individuals and focusing on personal goals.
"If you surround yourself with successful people, you'll be the next to succeed. If you hang around with the wrong crowd, you'll become the next one," she added. Her message serves as a motivational call to action for immigrants, urging them to steer clear of self-pity and, instead, work diligently to achieve their dreams in their new environment.
A Call to Act for a Brighter Future
In her concluding remarks, the Cuban encourages fellow immigrants who have also ventured abroad in search of a brighter future to take full advantage of every moment and opportunity. "Do whatever it takes to achieve your goal," she asserts, wrapping up her thoughtful reflection.
