The Juan Vitalio Acuña High School, located in the Pilón municipality of Granma, has been forced to close due to significant structural damage inflicted by strong earthquakes that struck the area on Sunday morning.
The local broadcaster, CMKX Radio Bayamo, posted photos on its Facebook page revealing the extent of the destruction. The images show shattered windows, some on the brink of falling, and walls that are cracked and broken, exposing several classrooms.
Specialists from the Provincial Company of Technical Services and Community Architects in Granma assessed the school's structural condition and concluded that it was unsafe for use. As a result, classes have been suspended at the educational facility heavily impacted by Sunday's seismic activity.
