A young Cuban captured on his cellphone the disorder that unfolded on Monday at a bank in Havana, where a crowd gathered intensely in a heated argument. The scene took place at the bank located in San Rafael, within the municipality of La Lisa. "This is what we have to go through after a month of work, folks; the hassle just to get paid," stated the person who recorded the video.
The footage reveals several individuals arguing over who had the right to enter the bank first. Eventually, a woman approached the young man, claiming to be a police officer, and told him he was not allowed to record.
Widespread Bank Chaos Amid Monetary Policy Failures
Scenes of long lines and confrontations at banks have become a regular occurrence in Cuba following the regime's unsuccessful monetary policy known as the Economic Reordering. These policies have led to severe financial disarray, leaving citizens struggling to access their own money.
This week, the Cuban Observatory for Human Rights (OCDH) highlighted the ongoing cash shortages plaguing banks, which fail to meet the demands of the Cuban people. "The queues to withdraw cash last several days, compounded by frequent blackouts that halt banking operations," reported the OCDH on their social media platform, X.
