A heartfelt display of solidarity occurred in Havana this Tuesday when the driver of a bus on Route 23 took swift action to transport a child experiencing a medical emergency directly to the hospital, bypassing the usual stops along the way. The incident unfolded on bus number 5229, where a one-year-old child began having seizures, causing alarm among the passengers, as reported by Transportación Habana TH on Facebook.

The child's mother, traveling with him due to his hematological and renal conditions, was on her way back to Lawton when the child started showing signs of convulsions. In response to the urgent situation, fellow passengers called out for help, searching for a doctor or anyone capable of assisting.

Decisive Action in a Critical Moment

Realizing the severity of the situation, the bus driver decided to speed up and skip the stops, heading straight to Hospital Hijas de Galicia, where the child received the necessary medical attention. Although unexpected for those on board, the decision was unanimously supported by the passengers, who understood the critical importance of prioritizing the child's health.

The driver expressed concern that passengers waiting at the stops might misinterpret his failure to halt, yet both he and the passengers involved in the emergency believed that his actions were justified.

Previous Acts of Kindness by Bus Drivers

This incident is not an isolated case; bus drivers in Havana have previously demonstrated solidarity during medical emergencies. In September, a public transport driver in Havana was thanked for his noble action when he assisted an elderly woman during her ride. The event took place in the morning when the driver of bus 707 on Route P1 in the Cuban capital helped the elderly woman to the "La Benéfica" hospital from Cuatro Caminos, as shared by Eliosmy Hernández in the Facebook group "Reporte de Rutas en Tiempo Real".

Additionally, in September, another public transport driver in Havana showcased compassion and humanity when a passenger fainted during the journey. A bus on Route P9 was traveling along the Calzada de Diez de Octubre when a young woman collapsed in the crowded aisle. The driver and his assistant promptly decided to take her to the nearest health center, transporting her to the Centro Nacional de Cirugía de Mínimo Acceso.
