This Tuesday, a human head was discovered along the shoreline of Key Biscayne, a location typically regarded as one of the most tranquil areas in Miami-Dade County. The discovery took place on a portion of the beach situated behind the Key Colony II Ocean Sound condominium at 251 Crandon Blvd, leaving both residents and beachgoers in shock.
The Key Biscayne police quickly covered the remains with a blue tarp and cordoned off part of the beach using yellow crime scene tape. "Everyone is extremely shocked; it's very unusual to find a body part on the beach," remarked Ivo Kusijamovic, a local resident, to Local 10 News.
Community Reacts to Disturbing Discovery
A woman recounted her experience, noting that she realized something was amiss when officers blocked her usual walking path. "He pointed at me to turn around immediately... it was quite unsettling," she explained. "Our neighborhood is very safe. We have our kids here; our children play on these beaches, and it's just hard to believe," she added.
Miami-Dade homicide detectives are now conducting an investigation into the case. The identity of the deceased remains unknown at this time.
Past Incidents Raise Concerns
Last year, the community was similarly alarmed by the discovery of a body floating in waters near Key Biscayne. A fisherman in the area spotted the body and alerted authorities. On that occasion, the body was found floating near Crandon Park Marina.
