A social media user, widely recognized for her unwavering support of the Cuban regime, lashed out at a taxi driver on Tuesday who claimed that the embargo is a myth. Jacqueline Rodríguez López, who manages the Facebook group "Cuba Soberana," shared the incident within the same community, stating, "I had a heated argument with a tourist taxi driver... the very audacious one saying there is no blockade."
In her post, she pleaded, "God, give me patience," and went as far as "reporting" the taxi driver by posting an image of the vehicle with its license plate clearly visible. This act seemed pointless, considering the driver merely voiced an opinion and did not commit any crime, other than offending the staunch regime supporter.
By doing so, the social media user not only subjected the driver to public scrutiny for simply expressing a viewpoint but also potentially exposed him to backlash from other fervent regime loyalists, despite lacking any evidence of wrongdoing. She concluded her "revolutionary speech" by declaring, "Let the worms inside and outside know, it's Homeland or Death, we will prevail. Keep posting on social media because you're doing NOTHING, and whoever wants to do something, do it."
Reactions and Controversies
The post sparked a debate on social media. Influencer Edmundo Dantés Junior commented on Facebook, "My respect to the driver, he encountered none other than the administrator of this group, who is a tough and wild claria."
Embargo Claims Contradicted by Recent Aid
In recent developments, the Cuban regime warmly welcomed a shipment of 100 electric generators donated by the American organization People's Forum NYC, intended to alleviate the energy crisis following hurricanes Rafael and Oscar. This development contradicts the regime's official narrative about the U.S. "blockade."
Cuban leader Miguel Díaz-Canel praised the arrival of the aid on his social media, writing, "Solidarity also comes from the American people. People's Forum NYC has donated 100 electric generators in 10 days." His statement inadvertently acknowledged that the much-touted "blockade" is more rhetorical than a genuine policy of suffocation by the neighboring country.
Furthermore, just days ago, Cuba received a shipment of 26,000 bottles of cooking oil from the United States as part of a humanitarian aid campaign organized by The People's Forum, a leftist group based in New York.
