An early morning crash in Hialeah on Wednesday resulted in one fatality and left another individual critically injured, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP). The accident took place at the intersection of Krome Avenue and Okeechobee Road, involving two pickup trucks.

The collision, reported around 5:00 a.m., involved a Dodge and a Ford pickup. Preliminary investigations by the FHP are still underway to determine the cause. Tragically, the driver of the Dodge was pronounced dead at the scene, while the Ford's driver was airlifted to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Emergency Response and Traffic Disruption

Aerial footage captured by local media displayed the severe damage to the vehicles' fronts, with the deceased covered by a yellow tarp amid the wreckage. The incident triggered a significant emergency response, leading to the area being cordoned off for several hours.

The aftermath of the accident caused substantial traffic disruptions along Krome Avenue, resulting in the southbound lanes of Okeechobee Road being closed temporarily. Authorities advised drivers to use alternative routes, such as the toll road and US 27, to bypass the accident site.

Ongoing Investigation into Accident Causes

By approximately 10:00 a.m., the FHP announced that the roads had been reopened, although traffic congestion persisted, affecting commuters heading towards Hialeah. Investigators are actively working to uncover the circumstances surrounding the crash, but no further details have been released yet.
