Cuban beauty Marianela Ancheta has revealed the personal items she'll be taking with her to the Miss Universe 2024 pageant this coming Saturday. During an appearance on "En Casa con Telemundo," she shared that a very special token will accompany her: a coin featuring Celia Cruz, the iconic queen of salsa. "I have a Celia Cruz coin that will be my good luck charm. I'm bringing that, a notebook, and, of course, the heart of all Cubans. It's not a physical thing, but it will give me a lot of strength," she shared.

Highlighting Cuban Women's Resilience

Ancheta, recently crowned as the first Miss Cuba in 57 years, is determined to showcase the resilience and relentless spirit of Cuban women during the event. She mentioned that her traditional costume will be inspired by the Virgin of Charity. Although she hasn't seen the completed outfit yet, she confidently stated that it is very beautiful. She also expressed excitement about the swimsuit runway. "The hip-swaying walk is when you can truly be yourself," she remarked.

A Journey from Humble Beginnings

Born in Villa Clara 31 years ago, Marianela moved to the United States at age 13 with her mother after crossing the Mexican border. "We worked in a bank cleaning floors, bathrooms, taking out the trash. Those were tough times we went through together, but because of it, I value many things today," she explained.

Last October, she admitted coming from a very humble background, and that her inner child can hardly believe what she's experiencing now. "I was 19 and spent Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve cleaning bathrooms at a Walgreens. It was very sad, but look at this change," she reflected then.

Representing Cuba on a Global Stage

Nearly two decades after emigrating, she proudly represents Cuba at Miss Universe, marking the country's return to the contest after more than fifty years. "I feel incredibly happy. I'm going to bring joy to all Cubans on the island, in exile, and those around the world," she emphasized.
