The National Center for Seismological Research (CENAIS) announced on Thursday that following Sunday's earthquakes southeast of Pilón, located in Granma province, a total of 2,665 aftershocks have been recorded. "In total, 2,665 aftershocks have been registered following the 6.0 and 6.7 magnitude earthquakes on November 10, with about 90 of them felt by residents," stated the bulletin published on the CENAIS website.

The report detailed that between Wednesday and Thursday, up until 5:59 a.m., there were 404 seismic events with magnitudes ranging from 1.1 to 3.7. The most significant damage from this seismic activity is concentrated in Granma province, where at least 3,518 homes have suffered some form of damage.

Luis Roja Yero, the technical deputy director of the Provincial Housing Directorate in Granma, informed La Demajagua newspaper that 513 partial collapses have been recorded, including 54 total collapses, 38 complete roof failures, and 313 partial roof collapses. Pilón municipality is the most affected, with 830 damaged homes, followed by Campechuela with 759, Bartolomé Masó with 663, Buey Arriba with 445, Media Luna with 337, and Manzanillo with 248. Other areas have reported fewer damages.

Assessing Structural Safety in Coastal Areas

Architects and specialists are conducting studies in coastal areas to determine the feasibility of the land for construction and the potential risks posed by seismic activity, according to a news portal. The recent events emphasize the ongoing threat posed by such natural phenomena, particularly in vulnerable regions.

Among the severely impacted state buildings is the Juan Vitalio Acuña secondary school in Pilón, which had to close due to the extensive damage sustained from the powerful quakes that shook the area on Sunday morning. CMKX Radio Bayamo, a local station, shared images on Facebook showing the destruction within the school's structure.

As a result of these earthquakes, 10 people sustained injuries, but fortunately, no fatalities have been reported, according to official sources.
