Elizabeth Estrada, the daughter of a well-known street vendor in Holguín affectionately called "Maní por Mony", has turned to Facebook for assistance. She is urging the community to purchase the roasted peanuts her father can no longer sell after suffering a severe stroke, leaving him in a dire health condition.
In a heartfelt post shared on Revolico Holguín, Estrada explains that selling all the peanuts at 260 pesos per pound is crucial for recouping the investment her father made. Currently, he is unable to continue his usual sales due to his health challenges.
Community Rallies for "Maní por Mony"
Estrada emphasizes her father's delicate health situation, appealing to his loyal customers for support. Those interested in buying the peanuts can visit Calle 12, number 5, between 1 and 3, Reparto Luz, Holguín.
The post quickly garnered reactions. Roberto Ricardo, a fellow netizen, called for collective support, stating, "Let's all support Maní por Mony so we can once again see this cherished peanut vendor, a staple of Holguín culture, back on his feet."
Many expressed their wishes for the vendor's swift recovery, with some promptly purchasing peanuts to help the family recover their investment. Photos of supporters buying peanuts from the beloved vendor surfaced, showcasing the community's affection for him.
Acts of Solidarity Across Cuba
Such supportive gestures are increasingly common in Cuba. Following Hurricane Oscar, Geomanis Faure Ramírez, known as the "hombre-taller," has been repairing mattresses for free in San Antonio del Sur, Guantánamo, offering aid to those affected. Other local entrepreneurs are also extending their help to the victims.
Additionally, a story emerged about a Havana bus driver who made an emergency hospital run for a child in medical distress, with passengers backing his swift actions.
