A 26-year-old Cuban migrant named Yoel Antonio Setién Martínez has been apprehended by Miami-Dade County police on several charges related to voyeurism and indecent exposure in the Country Walk neighborhood. According to the official report, Setién faces 23 charges, including 10 for burglary of occupied dwellings, 10 for voyeurism, two for indecent exposure, and one for resisting an officer without violence.
The arrest followed months of investigations and complaints from at least five women, aged between 39 and 61. The incidents, which began in May and continued through November, caused widespread fear in the community. Local media reported that some cases involved minors present in the homes.
Authorities revealed that Setién would access backyards of homes to watch and stalk his victims. In one particularly disturbing incident, he reportedly banged on a woman's window and left bodily fluids on the glass before fleeing.
Community member Gabriel Caballero voiced the collective concern, saying, "It's disgusting that we have to worry about someone invading our privacy. It affects our peace of mind," he told a local news outlet.
Community Alarmed by Series of Incidents
Among the accounts gathered, a 58-year-old woman recounted seeing Setién in her backyard twice: once at 2:45 a.m. on May 12 and again on the night of September 7. Another victim, 39, reported that the man climbed onto a neighbor's roof to spy on her. A third incident involved a 61-year-old woman who saw the suspect in her backyard while she was dressing.
On November 8, surveillance footage captured Setién hiding in bushes near one of his previous victim's homes. He returned the following day, leading to his arrest near Southwest 152nd Street and 142nd Avenue.
The case was solved thanks to surveillance videos that caught the accused in the act and helped identify him by his distinctive tattoos, including one of a girl with a wolf. During interrogation, Setién admitted to repeatedly entering backyards.
Legal Consequences and Broader Implications
Setién is currently detained at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, facing charges that could result in a lengthy prison sentence. Authorities are urging any other potential victims to come forward.
This arrest adds to a troubling series of incidents involving Cuban migrants in the area. In September 2024, another case shocked the community when a Cuban was convicted of child sexual abuse, losing custody of his children. The severity of the abuses and their impact on the victims made this case particularly notable.
In April 2024, a man was arrested in Miami for possession of child abuse videos, highlighting the ongoing criminal activities linked to such offenses in the local community. A previous case in September 2023 involved a Cuban accused of sexual assault and other serious crimes. The accused, a resident of Miami-Dade, faced charges including sexual assault and child abuse, underscoring a pattern of recidivism among certain criminal profiles in the region.
