Renowned Spanish singer Alejandro Sanz and Cuban-Spanish performer Chanel Terrero have shown their support for Beatriz Luengo and Yotuel Romero following derogatory remarks made by Spanish actor and Cuban regime supporter, Willy Toledo. Toledo's inflammatory comments targeted the couple, particularly Yotuel, whom he accused of betraying his own people and family in Cuba.
"Between what he claims (all lies) and what he doesn't mention (that his family in Cuba has disowned him for being a worm), this Yotuel is the perfect example of someone who would sell his own child for a few coins. Or his people: he's been advocating for tighter sanctions against those he pretends to defend for years," Toledo ranted on social media.
His harsh words, following the airing of the documentary Patria y Vida on Spanish television, struck a nerve with Luengo, who responded both as a mother and as a human rights activist committed to Cuban freedom. "Children deserve respect, protection, and care. They should not be insulted by dragging minors into the fray, and we should all stand for that," the Spanish artist declared on Instagram, sharing a video where she addressed Toledo's offensive comments.
Artists Rally in Support
The response from fellow Spanish artists was swift, with many voicing their disapproval of Toledo's words and standing in solidarity with Beatriz and Yotuel. Among those speaking out was Alejandro Sanz, who commented, "My dear, there are bad people, cruel people, misled people, and foolish people. And then there are those who embody all of these. Don't let that wretched, mentally deforested man steal even a second of your peace. I love and admire you, my dear friend."
Beatriz replied to Sanz with gratitude, saying, "Thank you, maestro of music and life." Other users echoed her sentiments, thanking Sanz for supporting the Cuban cause, calling him a "medicine for the soul" and praising him for defending Yotuel and his family.
Chanel Terrero's Solidarity
Another artist who showed her support was Chanel Terrero, a Cuban-Spanish singer who gained fame after representing Spain in the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest with the song "SloMo." She expressed her solidarity by telling Beatriz, "I'm with you, Bea." In response, Beatriz thanked Chanel for her support during a vulnerable time, exchanging words of affection and solidarity.
