A tragic car accident last Tuesday on the overpasses of Avenida del Puerto, near the train terminal in Old Havana, not only claimed a life but also saw victims suffer the theft of personal belongings. According to a source close to the victims who wished to remain anonymous, amidst the chaos of human and material loss, a theft occurred at the scene.
The source revealed that the deceased’s cell phone and money belonging to the injured driver were stolen while emergency services were still addressing the situation. The source further explained that the driver was blinded by the lights of a taxi, which likely caused the collision.
Despite managing to escape the vehicle on his own, the driver reportedly has no recollection of the crash details. A witness described the accident, suggesting that the "polaquito" overturned after colliding head-on with the taxi, an incident that took place in an area where there is a stop sign for those coming from Agramonte. This implies that poor visibility and lack of proper signage may have been crucial factors.
Another witness who passed by the scene remarked that "the polaquito was crushed like a stomped soda can," while the taxi, though damaged, was in relatively better condition.
