This past Sunday, actor Rubén Cortada received the prestigious Light Award at the 50th Ibero-American Film Festival of Huelva. Recognized for his emergence as a notable talent in Ibero-American audiovisuals and outstanding serialized fiction produced in Spain and Latin America, Cortada was honored at a ceremony held at Huelva's Gran Teatro. He joined the ranks of other celebrated figures such as Paz Vega and María León, who were also acknowledged at this year's festival, according to Efe.
Overwhelmed with emotion, the actor from the Isle of Youth in Cuba expressed his deep appreciation: "Receiving this award for my work is truly an honor. It's a gift from Huelva, a city I fell in love with during the filming of 'Operación Barrio Inglés'."
A Journey of Dedication and Passion
Earlier, during his participation in the "Encounters" session, running parallel to the festival, Cortada shared his thoughts on his profession and dedicated the award to his peers: "I pour my heart into being an actor, and I accept this award with a great sense of responsibility towards my craft and my colleagues." He emphasized his ongoing journey to become a better actor, firmly believing that "earning respect comes through hard work and learning."
Cortada revealed that his passion for acting was sparked by films like "Carne trémula" and "Fresa y Chocolate," saying, "A thorn was planted in me." He highlighted cinema's vital role as a societal mirror, stating, "Film reflects society; through it, I can witness local stories from distant places. It's the lifeblood flowing on both sides."
From Sports to Stardom
Born in 1984 on Cuba's Isle of Youth, Cortada initially excelled as a federated tennis player and practiced boxing before venturing into the arts as a model. He eventually shifted his focus to acting, making his debut in series like "Bandolera" and "El tiempo entre costuras."
His international breakthrough came with his role in "El príncipe," solidifying his career with subsequent appearances in "Olmos y Robles" and "Lo que escondían sus ojos." In the film industry, he has starred in movies such as "El signo de Caronte" and "El cuarto pasajero," directed by Álex de la Iglesia.
