Amidst ongoing power outages and severe shortages, a group of entrepreneurs in Santiago de Cuba, led by self-employed worker Richard and his family, extended a helping hand by providing meals to elderly and vulnerable individuals in the Vista Hermosa neighborhood's 97th constituency this past Sunday.
Aris Arias Batalla reported on Facebook that the food offering included sandwiches, soft drinks, rice, boiled root vegetables, and other essential items. These contributions are especially significant given the scarcity of liquefied gas and the current electrical crisis, providing much-needed relief to those in dire situations. "Many of them are in very critical conditions," Arias highlighted, sharing several images that captured the generous act of the Santiago entrepreneur.
This gesture is not an isolated event. Richard, along with other local self-employed workers, has made similar donations in the past, continually offering food to support those in need. "Everyone was very pleased and grateful for the humanitarian and compassionate act," Arias added.
These acts of kindness occur against a backdrop of economic and social hardships. They not only address immediate needs but also plant seeds of hope amid adversity, particularly for those groups of people neglected by the Cuban regime.
Community Meals Provide Relief
Last Saturday, at the Santa María Parish and the San Pedro Mission, both located in Santiago de Cuba, 441 individuals benefited from a communal solidarity lunch. The menu at the first religious institution featured white rice, salami in sauce, and yucca—prepared with much effort due to the lack of electricity throughout the day, as noted by Father Rodhin A. Colomar on his Facebook profile.
In Artemisa, a local couple demonstrated a commendable act of solidarity by providing free meals to vulnerable residents in their neighborhood. Amid the devastation caused by Hurricane Rafael in the province, where nearly half of the residents remain without power, the couple of self-employed workers decided to extend a helping hand to their less fortunate fellow citizens.
