A classic car, commonly known as an "almendrón," sustained significant rear-end damage after being struck on Monday night at the intersection of Vía Blanca and the exit to Monumental. This incident was reported by a witness on social media.

"Before reaching the bridge on Vía Blanca and Monumental, the almendrón was pulling out, the truck came speeding, and boom, there's the result of their affection," a witness posted in the Facebook group Accidentes Buses & Camiones. The impact left the Chevrolet almendrón with severe rear damage.

“The almendrón driver’s year is ruined,” commented another user. Fortunately, the source confirmed that there were no fatalities or injuries, and those traveling in the vintage vehicle are the ones appearing in the photos.

The witness noted that the truck, barely visible in the images shared, only suffered a "minor dent on the co-driver’s corner."

Hazardous Roads and Reckless Driving

Regarding the causes of the accident, despite suggestions of the truck driver's excessive speed, a couple of commenters familiar with the area mentioned that it is a notoriously dangerous spot with a history of accidents.

"If it's at the 'knife' intersection, priority goes to those on Vía Blanca, but generally, some drivers coming down from Monumental ignore the 'Yield' sign. Several accidents have occurred there, often due to ignoring the 'Yield,'" one netizen noted.

Another added, "There are many reckless drivers who turn left at that stretch, and if this was the case, there you have the consequences."

Others expressed concerns about the increasing dangers of driving at night in Cuba, as darkness coupled with unexpected potholes and the poor condition of many roads heightens the risk.
