Cuban Woman in Barcelona Sparks Debate on Dating Differences Between Cuban and Spanish Partners

Tuesday, November 19, 2024 by Joseph Morales

A Cuban woman living in Barcelona has ignited a lively discussion on TikTok after responding to a frequently asked question: "Do you think it's better to be with a Spaniard than a Cuban?" Her candid response left no room for indifference.

In a video uploaded to the platform, the young woman, Blanca de Dios, emphasized that her insights are drawn from her personal experiences. She explained why her current relationship with a Spaniard feels significantly better compared to her past relationships in Cuba. "With my Cuban boyfriends, it was always a toxic relationship," she admitted, describing how common it was in Cuba to check a partner’s phone, control their whereabouts, and constantly fear infidelities.

Embracing a Healthier Relationship

Blanca noted that she had normalized such relationships in Cuba until she moved to Spain and met her current partner, Alberto, who introduced her to the concept of a healthy relationship. "With Alberto, I can go to bed peacefully. He can hang out with his friends, and I'm not worried about him being with someone else. He doesn't check my phone, nor do I feel the need to check his," she confidently stated. She also acknowledged her own past behavior, admitting she was a "toxic maniac" and has since learned to engage in more mature relationships.

A Stir of Reactions

Her video quickly went viral, eliciting a wide range of reactions in the comments. Many women related to her experience and shared similar stories. Comments such as "Team staying with my Spaniard haha, and I'm going on 24 years," "I also choose my Spaniard," and "It's a whole different vibe, girl" reflected a shared sentiment. Some users highlighted their happiness in relationships with Spaniards, Italians, or Europeans in general, emphasizing the non-negotiable nature of healthy relationships.

However, some viewers challenged her generalizations. Responses like "Toxicity doesn't have a passport," "I'm Cuban and never had such toxic relationships, maybe you met the wrong people," and "I don't trust anyone, Cuban or European," showcased differing opinions.

Clarifying Misunderstandings

Blanca addressed the dissenting comments respectfully, clarifying that her observations were not about all Cubans but rather a type of relationship dynamic she learned in her environment in Cuba, which she believes is unhealthy. "In Cuba, I could never go out partying with my friends while I had a boyfriend, and we shared phone passwords," she asserted.

The conversation remains active, highlighting a topic that resonates with many, especially within the Cuban community: cultural differences in relationships and their impact on everyday life.
