A Cuban charity initiative known as “Breath of Life” has launched the sale of handcrafted soaps in the United States, aiming to raise funds to support children and young individuals with cerebral palsy in Cuba. Yankiel Fernández, the driving force behind this mission, shared on Facebook that the goal is to cover shipping expenses and secure essential resources to advance the project, which is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for this vulnerable group.
Fernández highlighted that the soaps can be purchased both in-person and online, emphasizing that this is a collective endeavor designed to make a positive impact on those in need. He further urged the public to spread the word, even if they are unable to contribute through a purchase directly.
Empowering a Vulnerable Community
One of the images shared by the activist depicts the soap sales as part of the Be One (Be One More) initiative, which aims to "alleviate shortages for the sick and vulnerable in Cuba." The image also states, “for every two soaps you purchase, we guarantee the delivery of a pound of medicines and food to those who need it most.”
Over the years, “Breath of Life” has played a crucial role in supporting children and adolescents with cerebral palsy, as well as their families. In a plea last October, the project sought financial assistance to keep its program for children and young people with cerebral palsy, an effort that began four years ago, going strong.
Expanding Reach and Support
The project's leader, Fernández, explained on Facebook that they were currently assisting 12 children but revealed plans to extend their support to 15 children in Havana and 20 in Pinar del Río. In various instances, Fernández has acknowledged the generosity of individuals in the United States, which has enabled “Breath of Life” to provide humanitarian aid to the families of children and teens with cerebral palsy.
