Flor de Cuba has faced a wave of criticism for her social media videos showcasing her life on the island and her personal progress. She finds it misplaced to be questioned for her success, as if being in Cuba means everyone must endure the same hardships. In a video shared on Instagram from Miami, where she is currently visiting, the content creator addressed these criticisms.
"Social classes exist in Cuba just like they do worldwide. However, elsewhere, people aren't offended by others' prosperity nor do they expect others to stop living well out of 'empathy,'" she wrote in the caption accompanying the video.
Flor de Cuba reflects in the video that people often blame those at the top of these social classes for the economic struggles of the broader population. Some even ask those who are thriving to stop showcasing or enjoying their lives out of solidarity with others.
Challenging the Criticism
She argues that the real issue isn't her content but the location: "You don't mind seeing a Cuban living well or flaunting their lifestyle in another country; you mind when they do it in Cuba. I believe this is completely twisted and contradicts the idea of eliminating inequality. If you were consistent, you'd be happy when someone manages to break through the barrier of poverty."
The influencer emphasizes the need to stop romanticizing reality and to view those who have succeeded as sources of inspiration, not as competitors or scapegoats. "They aren't responsible for anything, nor can they change the country's economic situation for better or worse. And yes, social classes already exist in Cuba, and it's time to understand this maturely," she affirmed.
