A Cuban woman residing in the United States has stirred discussion by expressing her wish to return to live in Cuba, explaining that, despite the hardships, she feels happier there. "I don't care if people criticize me, I don't care what they say. I'm going to make the most of these years life is giving me. I'm going to work hard and fight to go back to my country," she declared in a brief video shared on TikTok.
Speaking from her account @yersiye.cuen, she continued, "I don't care if my country is upside down, if it's in chaos. It doesn't matter to me." She stressed her determination to return to Cuba, saying, "I prefer to go back because living here in the United States like this, no way, I don't want that life for myself. I'd rather face hunger and power outages in Cuba; it doesn't matter to me."
"I'd choose living in Cuba over the United States because honestly, I can't tell where life is worse—here or there. There's everything here, but I'm not happy, I can't smile, I can only work, work, work," she added. "In Cuba, I didn't have money, but I was happy," she concluded.
The video sparked divided opinions in the comments section. Some criticized her and urged her to leave immediately, while others understood her perspective and advocated for respecting her right to choose. Some even resonated with her viewpoint.
Comedian Andy Vázquez was among those who highlighted the video on Facebook in recent days, with over 500 users sharing their opinions by the time this article was written. "Let's not judge her; only she knows what she's going through. If it's her wish, respect it. Many people's dreams have turned into nightmares for various reasons, but they can't find peace," commented one user.
From Cuba, a young man lamented, "Life is sad. So many young people remain here, practically without any hope of leaving because we can't find the economic means..." He concluded with the saying, "God gives a beard to those without a jaw."
Meanwhile, another Cuban from the United States bluntly stated, "Leave, we don't want you; we don't need you," echoing the sentiment of many among the thousands of comments the video has generated across different forums.
