Anuel AA Sparks New Controversy in Reggaeton by Calling Farruko "Washed Up"

Wednesday, November 20, 2024 by Ernesto Alvarez

The release of the song "+57" by Karol G alongside other Colombian artists continues to stir conversations within the reggaeton scene. The track initially grabbed attention due to its controversial lyrics, which the performers eventually amended. However, it has also sparked a fresh conflict between two prominent Puerto Rican urban artists: Farruko and Anuel AA. After witnessing the Colombian artists' collaboration, Farruko took to social media to criticize the lack of unity among Puerto Rican artists and their tendency to glorify violence in their lyrics. Although he didn't explicitly name anyone, Anuel AA perceived this as a personal attack and responded fiercely, defending the new wave of musicians.

The argument quickly escalated when Anuel labeled Farruko as "washed up," igniting a series of heated exchanges online. Known for his straightforwardness, Farruko retaliated by questioning Anuel's authenticity and implying that his current fame is more a result of controversies than musical talent. "There's a difference between being popular for drama and not delivering, and being low-key because you're not a clown," Farruko stated in a post. This back-and-forth of accusations on social media has even led Farruko to challenge Anuel AA to a musical duel. As of now, neither artist has released a diss track aimed at the other, but the tension continues to rise.

During a recent concert, Anuel AA added fuel to the fire, using the stage to further provoke Farruko, who has been consistently posting messages directed at Anuel AA. It's notable that in the past, the two artists shared a positive relationship and have collaborated on projects together. There was a time when Anuel AA publicly acknowledged Farruko's support during the early stages of his career. "When no one believed in me, Farru did. I'm with you through thick and thin! I grew up listening to your music," Anuel AA once declared on social media.
