The well-known Cuban comedy duo, Los Pichy Boys, has directed a fierce message at actress Ana de Armas following reports of her romantic involvement with Manuel Anido Cuesta, the son of Lis Cuesta, the current partner of Cuban leader and dictator Miguel Díaz-Canel. Through a post on their official Instagram account, Los Pichy Boys slammed the actress, labeling her relationship as a "betrayal" to the Cuban people.
In their outspoken post, the duo expressed their dissatisfaction with De Armas' actions: "Ana, you are a disgrace to all Cubans. Out of all the men in the world, you choose to get involved with the Canel family, the very ones who have our people suffering." They further criticized her for a perceived lack of solidarity with the plight of Cubans, especially in light of the significant protests on July 11, 2021.
A Disconnect with Her Roots
Los Pichy Boys also highlighted recent parties hosted by De Armas in Havana, which they described as evidence of her detachment from the harsh realities faced by her fellow Cubans. "Ana de Armas caught with the son of Lis Cuesta, wife of Cuba's dictator. You are a disgrace to all Cubans, Ana. With so many men in the world, you choose to engage with someone from the Canel family, the same ones who keep our people in misery. That's why you've never spoken up for your people," they asserted.
The duo went on to comment on the gatherings: "There you are, celebrating in Havana with pomp and circumstance, alongside your friends from Cuba and Miami who come to visit you. I knew it: after your Miami friends cried on July 11, now they can enter Cuba as if nothing happened. You're connected, and it seems they are too. What a huge embarrassment!"
A Polarizing Debate
Their response resonates with many in the Cuban diaspora who view this relationship as an implicit endorsement of the Cuban regime. As of now, Ana de Armas has remained silent on the matter publicly.
The involvement of De Armas with Manuel Anido Cuesta has sparked controversy, given his close ties to the Cuban political structure, being the son of Lis Cuesta, a cultural advisor to the regime. This personal connection is seen by some as the actress taking a stance in a politically and socially sensitive environment.
Los Pichy Boys' message quickly went viral, igniting a heated debate on social media. While some users support the duo's criticism of De Armas, others defend her right to keep her personal life separate from political issues.
