A man is fighting for his life after being stabbed in a violent altercation at a Cuban café in Tamiami, located in southwest Miami-Dade, on Tuesday evening. The incident unfolded at "Sabor Cubano," situated at the intersection of SW 8th Street and 129th Place, around 7:30 p.m.
Authorities report that the trouble began inside the cafe when a customer started causing a disturbance and harassing an employee. Witnessing the commotion, another patron stepped in to try and defuse the situation. However, the verbal dispute quickly escalated into a physical confrontation once the two men exited the restaurant.
During the brawl, the assailant pulled out a knife and repeatedly stabbed the bystander who had tried to intervene. After the attack, the perpetrator fled in an unknown direction, leaving the victim severely injured.
Onlookers immediately called 911, and the injured man was rushed to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, where he remains in critical condition. Detectives and forensic experts have been on the scene, gathering evidence, reviewing security footage, and interviewing witnesses to piece together the events that transpired.
Suspect Apprehended Without Incident
By Wednesday afternoon, the suspect returned to the scene of the crime, where he was promptly arrested by authorities. Witnesses reported that the arrest was carried out smoothly, although the official charges are yet to be announced.
A spokesperson from the Miami-Dade Police Department praised the bravery of the customer who attempted to mediate but cautioned against intervening in violent disputes. "We always recommend contacting police or emergency services. Incidents like these can become dangerous or even fatal," the spokesperson stated.
The authorities are urging anyone with pertinent information regarding the case to reach out to Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Informants can remain anonymous.
