A motorcyclist sustained injuries after being struck by a car at the bustling intersection of Zapata and Paseo in El Vedado, Havana. The incident was highlighted by Yasmany Alfonso, a member of the Facebook group "Traffic Accidents in Cuba," who shared images showing the motorcycle lying in the street, nearly lodged beneath a vehicle.

"The motorbike driver was taken away unconscious," Alfonso noted. Living just two blocks from the scene, he arrived moments after the accident occurred and mentioned that the traffic light was operational. According to him, a couple occupied the car. "The woman appeared unharmed, but the man remained motionless inside the vehicle," he observed.

Potential Causes of the Incident

Alfonso speculated on the possible cause of the accident, attributing it to the traffic signals. "This avenue is very wide, and the problem lies with the countdown lights. One says 'three seconds left' and the other says 'only three seconds,' leading to confusion where one doesn't stop, and the other starts prematurely," he explained.

Recent Traffic Accidents in Cuba

On Tuesday, a peculiar accident occurred in Guantánamo where a motorcyclist collided with a tow chain connecting two vehicles. A witness recounted that the mishap took place at the intersection of Moncada and Prado streets, as a car was towing another and the motorcyclist failed to see the chain, resulting in a tangle. Fortunately, neither the motorcyclist nor the passenger suffered injuries. The motorcyclist was reportedly at fault for not paying attention to the road.

Additionally, on the same day in Havana, an oil spill near the Marianao Obelisk roundabout caused several motorcyclists to lose control. A social media user warned about the situation on Facebook, reporting that over a dozen bikes had slipped and fallen within an hour.

Last week, a classic car known as an "almendrón" collided with a motorcycle in the La Víbora neighborhood of Havana's 10 de Octubre municipality, apparently due to a pothole. A witness described on Facebook how a third vehicle, a Lada, hit the pothole, causing suspension issues. To avoid hitting the Lada, the almendrón swerved and struck the motorcycle. "At the intersection of Porvenir and Font, right by the Manzanillo. The Lada lost its balance, and the Chevi, trying to avoid the pothole, ended up crashing into the motorbike," the witness detailed.
