Mexican authorities have discovered the remains of two Cuban women, identified as Ana Mercedes, 33, and Leydi de la Caridad, 36, who were abducted near Tapachula in the southern region of the country. The dismembered bodies were found in a discarded trash container along the road connecting Pumpuapan with Nueva Granada, as reported by the local outlet Diario del Sur.
An 18-year-old motorcyclist named Julio Alberto happened upon the scene as the criminals abandoned the women and was also tragically gunned down. Investigations revealed that the women were kidnapped on a Saturday night around 9 PM by an armed group while staying at a hotel in the city near the Guatemalan border. They were then taken to an unknown location.
Desperate Plea and Tragic Outcome
A heart-wrenching video later surfaced on social media showing Ana Mercedes pleading with her family to pay the ransom demanded by their captors. Unfortunately, when the ransom was not met, the women were brutally killed, according to official reports. Their bodies were placed in a plastic container and left on the Tapachula highway, an area congested with thousands of migrants striving to reach the U.S. border.
Family's Agony and Growing Crisis
The families of the victims approached the District Border Prosecution to identify the bodies. Ana Mercedes was known to work at a bar in the border city. Authorities have reported that the whereabouts of one victim's husband remain unknown, even after he sought police assistance regarding the kidnapping.
This tragic incident highlights the rising trend of kidnappings in Mexico amid the Cuban migration crisis. Just six days prior, a family in Cuba reported having no contact with Jorge Raúl Avalle Recio, a Cuban migrant in Mexico, for 11 days. Despite his wife sending $3,200 in ransom, he remains missing.
