A Cuban mother, Daimara Aliaga from Jimaguayú in Camagüey, has reached out for assistance to feed her children following the arrest of her husband for participating in a protest. Since October 17, her husband, Nelson Caballero Díaz, has been in custody for voicing his opposition to the power outages. He was the family's sole provider, according to Aliaga.
"I have no means to feed my two children," she expressed. She detailed that her inability to work stems from her children's poor health, requiring her constant attention. Through social media, she conveyed, "I'm alone at home, unable to feed my children. The father of my kids has been imprisoned for over a month. My kids are very young and sick. Please, help us."
Community Efforts to Support the Struggling Family
Independent journalist Jose Luis Tan Estrada has also highlighted the family's plight on social platforms to garner support. He shared her national currency card number [9206-0699-9190-5207] and called for donations, whether financial or material, to ease Daimara's and her children's dire circumstances.
"Every contribution counts: a peso, a candy, a like, or sharing this post. These children are in need," he wrote, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.
Protests Against Power Outages Met with Arrests
Nelson was apprehended after protesting against the ongoing and disruptive power cuts that plague the town of Camagüey. Neighbors reported that the demonstration was peaceful, yet authorities swiftly detained him. In recent days, numerous Cubans have been arrested for protesting the relentless blackouts that have become a recurring issue across the island.
