During his second court appearance scheduled for November 21, Damian Valdez-Galloso entered a plea of "not guilty" in the case concerning the homicide of Cuban reggaeton singer José Manuel Carvajal, popularly known as El Taiger. The news was confirmed by journalist Maylin Legañoa from Telemundo 51 through a social media post: "Damian Valdez-Galloso, accused of fatally shooting El Taiger, pleads not guilty."
Manager's Reaction to the Plea
Teresa Padrón, who managed and was a close friend of the late artist, shared her thoughts after leaving the courtroom. "Believe it or not, I am pleased because this will put more pressure on those supporting the justice cause. By pleading not guilty, we're heading to trial," she stated to reporters. Padrón further speculated that more individuals might be involved in the crime, suggesting that Valdez-Galloso couldn't have moved El Taiger's body alone due to its weight.
Unexpected Change in Hearing Date
The session occurred after an unexpected advancement of the original hearing date, as Padrón recently explained. "I imagine the reason was because they found out many people planned to attend on Friday. The court often does this to avoid large gatherings. Regardless, it's still public information," she remarked.
Public Demand for Justice
The manager also disclosed plans to submit a petition to the prosecution, signed by over 49,000 people, demanding that the charges against Valdez-Galloso be elevated from second-degree homicide to first-degree murder. The ongoing investigation into El Taiger's murder remains active, with Miami police asserting they have sufficient evidence for a guilty verdict. However, Padrón maintains that another accomplice is likely involved in the crime, assisting the accused.
The case continues to capture the attention of El Taiger's fans, who are fervently calling for justice for the artist who left a significant impact on Cuban urban music.
