The National Seismological Service's network of stations detected an earthquake this Thursday at 8:17 a.m. local time, registering a magnitude of 4.0 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was pinpointed 19 kilometers southeast of Pilón, in the province of Granma.

Dr. Enrique Diego Arango Arias, a leading scientist at the National Center for Seismological Research, shared on Facebook that the earthquake was recorded at coordinates 19.76 degrees latitude north and -77.19 degrees longitude west, with a depth of 10 kilometers. Initial reports suggest the tremor was felt in various parts of Granma province.

Community Reacts But Remains Unaffected

Despite the widespread sensation of the quake, the National Seismological Service assured that, as of the latest updates, there have been no reports of physical or human damage linked to this seismic activity. This news offers some relief to residents who experienced the tremor.

Arango also mentioned on his social media account that since November 10, following the significant earthquakes of 6.0 and 6.7 magnitudes, there have been 5,186 aftershocks recorded. The seismic activity continues to be monitored closely as the situation evolves.
