In the wake of the significant earthquakes that struck eastern Cuba on Sunday, November 10, authorities have cataloged more than 5,000 aftershocks. By Thursday at 6:00 am, the National Center for Seismological Research (CENAIS) had identified a total of 5,053 aftershocks, with 120 of them likely noticeable due to magnitudes above 2.5.

Enrique Diego Arango Arias, who leads the national seismological service, emphasized that it is quite typical for numerous aftershocks to occur for weeks following earthquakes of 6.0 and 6.7 magnitude on the Richter scale. "Aftershocks result from the adjustment of the rupture zone, and they are always smaller than the main quake," he posted on his Facebook page.

On Thursday at 8:17 am, the National Seismological Service (SSN) network registered a noticeable earthquake with a magnitude of 4.0. The epicenter was located 19 km southeast of Pilón, in the Granma province. According to Arango Arias, this seismic activity was pinpointed at coordinates 19.76 degrees north latitude and -77.19 degrees west longitude, at a depth of 10 kilometers.

Preliminary reports indicate that the quake was felt in several areas within Granma, yet it caused no material damage or injuries to the population. Earlier, on Tuesday morning, another earthquake with a magnitude of 4.2 was felt across various municipalities in the provinces of Granma and Santiago de Cuba shortly after 6:00 am.

This event stirred concern and prompted immediate reactions on social media, where residents from places like Media Luna, Manzanillo, Pilón, and Niquero shared their anxieties through numerous posts.
