The discovery of 22-year-old Jesús David Corcho Pérez's body in Jovellanos, Matanzas, has left many Cubans on social media in shock. Corcho had been missing since last Sunday, prompting his family to issue an urgent alert for his whereabouts. Four days later, the grim news was shared by Corcho's cousin on Facebook, revealing that he had been murdered, though no details about the crime were disclosed.
“They found my cousin lifeless, so young! We demand justice! He was just a child,” wrote a heartbroken Dêborâ D Dârkar in a post.
Speculation and Community Reactions
There is speculation among those who knew Corcho that he might have been killed for his purple motorcycle, which he was riding when he vanished. However, this theory has not been officially confirmed. Corcho was well-loved in his community, with Alicia María López Hernández, one of his teachers, describing him as “an exceptional human being and my most special student.”
Meanwhile, his mother, Maleybis Pérez Camacho, a well-known dentist in the region, had been actively seeking help to find her son.
Public Outcry Over Crime and Law Enforcement
Social media comments reflect a growing sentiment that crime is on the rise in Cuba and that the law is too lenient. “Cuban laws aren’t punishing these criminals with the severity they deserve. They roam freely, committing murders over trivial matters,” one Facebook user lamented.
As of the article’s publication, authorities have yet to provide any official statements regarding the circumstances of the murder, which remains under investigation.
