The tragic death of a Cuban man in a traffic accident in the United States this past Thursday has left his family and friends in deep shock. Identified on social media by friends as José Ernesto, he hailed from Minas de Matahambre in Pinar del Río.
His friend, Korache Valdés Bosmenier, shared the heartbreaking news online, revealing that early Thursday morning, José Ernesto was struck by a car running a red light while he was riding his motorcycle home from work. Valdés expressed his sorrow with these poignant words, "Today the world mourns... I have no words to express this immense loss. With tears in my eyes and a heavy heart, I inform the rest of our friends... Jose, I will always remember you as that crazy great friend, companion, and brother... Rest in peace."
Valdés accompanied his post with several photos of himself and José Ernesto but did not specify the city where the accident occurred or provide further details.
A Community Mourns
Back in Cuba, another friend of the deceased expressed his grief. "Today the heavens are in mourning, my friend José, I still can't believe it, but remember you'll always be in my heart. I remember that night you called me on video to see you cheering," wrote Pelao Rubio.
In another touching message, a friend added, "I still can't believe it, my great friend and brother José Ernesto. One day we'll meet again up there to enjoy the music you loved so much. I love you, you know."
Friends and acquaintances have highlighted José Ernesto's joyful spirit, loyalty, and the affection he garnered in his hometown. Many have expressed their condolences to his family. Messages such as "I deeply feel your loss, Jose. You'll always live in our hearts. Your memory will be a beacon in our hearts. Rest in peace. We'll remember you with affection and gratitude" and "Jose, my God! Words fail me. Eternal rest for someone who never rested and brought so much joy and memories to many of us!" underscore the profound impact of his unexpected passing.
Recent Tragedies Highlight Traffic Dangers
Unfortunately, José Ernesto's death is not an isolated incident. There have been several recent traffic accidents involving Cuban emigrants in the United States. Last Saturday, a Cuban family lost three members, including an eight-year-old child, in a multi-vehicle crash in Miami-Dade. Just days prior, Alexis Muñoz, a 46-year-old married father of three who had recently moved to Florida, was killed in a hit-and-run incident while riding his scooter to work.
