The mother of Jesús David Corcho Pérez, a 22-year-old who was tragically murdered in Jovellanos, Matanzas, during a robbery for his motorcycle, has called for justice and expressed deep gratitude for the outpouring of support she has received. Maleybis Pérez Camacho, a dentist by profession, shared a heartfelt message on her Facebook page. In it, she described how, amidst her overwhelming grief and helplessness, she was truly touched by the solidarity shown by friends, strangers, the residents of Jovellanos, and even many Cubans living elsewhere in the country and abroad.

"This is something I will never be able to overcome personally, but I want to thank everyone for their prayers, good wishes, those who took part in the search, and those who shared posts on social media. Thank you all for your love and the beautiful tributes to my son," she expressed. Maleybis acknowledged the support from her family, neighbors, colleagues, friends, the police, MININT, the Cochlear Implant Group (since her son was deaf-mute), and her son's friends.

A Community United in Grief

"They gave my broken heart hope for an ending that wasn't as painful. My soul is dry, my life is shattered, but I have an immense gratitude to all who offered help, support, or simply gave me a silent hug or a handshake," she noted. "My beloved son was a much-wanted child, cherished by everyone, happy in his very short life, and amidst this enormous sorrow, that's the only thing keeping me going," she emphasized.

The grieving mother asserted that the support she has received in these days shows that, at least when faced with such a despicable, disgusting, and unjustified act, Cubans remain family-oriented, loving, and supportive. "And may justice be served so that no other mother or father has to endure what we are going through," she demanded.

The Tragic Discovery

Last Thursday, the lifeless body of Jesús David Corcho Pérez was discovered after being reported missing the previous Sunday. Four days following the family's urgent alert to locate him, a cousin announced the tragic outcome: he was found dead, confirming he had been murdered, although she did not provide further details.

The incident sent shockwaves through the town of Jovellanos, where friends, acquaintances, and residents immediately mobilized to search for him and spread the alert through Facebook profiles and groups. Those who knew him described him as a well-loved member of the community. His teacher, Alicia María López Hernández, remembered him as one of her unforgettable students, characterizing him as a "joyful, independent young man with a big heart."

Friends and acquaintances suspect he was killed for his purple moped, which he was riding when he disappeared, though this has not yet been officially confirmed. Corcho Pérez left his home around 4:00 pm on Sunday, the 17th, on his moped, and from that moment, he vanished without a trace. As hours passed with no sign of him, the desperation grew, intensifying the search with hopes of finding him safe and sound.

His anguished family reported the disappearance to the police and took to social media to raise awareness about his case, seeking help to find him.
