Last night, Cuba experienced a significant drop in temperatures, especially in certain parts of Matanzas, where the mercury dipped below 50 degrees Fahrenheit. According to the Institute of Meteorology (INSMET), the night was notably chilly across the western and central regions, stretching from Matanzas to Ciego de Ávila. Minimum temperatures recorded ranged between 55 and 57 degrees Fahrenheit.
The coldest temperature was observed at the Indio Hatuey weather station in Matanzas, reaching a low of 49.5 degrees Fahrenheit. Elsewhere in the country, the night was also cool, with temperatures ranging from 63 to 68 degrees Fahrenheit, slightly warmer near coastal areas.
Cold Front and Weather Conditions
INSMET reported that the first cold front of the season had moved through, bringing some rain to the eastern region over the last 24 hours. The highest rainfall was recorded at the Jamal weather station in Guantánamo, measuring 19 mm. Meanwhile, the rest of the provinces experienced stable weather due to the influence of migrating high-pressure systems.
As the day progresses, the cold front is expected to continue weakening and eventually dissipate as it moves away from the national territory. "Meanwhile, the influence of continental-origin high-pressure systems will persist, bringing colder, drier, and more stable air that will limit rainfall across much of the country," the report detailed.
