This Sunday, the province of Artemisa experienced an unusually chilly dawn, with temperatures dipping to 54°F, prompting residents to dig out their winter coats. Meteorologist Raydel Ruisánchez shared on Facebook that the minimum temperatures recorded across Artemisa ranged from 54°F to 59°F.
Ruisánchez highlighted that Bauta was the coldest spot in the province, with temperatures dropping to 54°F, followed by 56°F in Güira de Melena and 64°F in Bahía Honda. These all belong to the same province.
Cold Spell Sweeps Across Cuba
Throughout the nation, temperatures also fell, especially in some areas of Matanzas, where the thermometer dipped below 50°F. According to data from the Institute of Meteorology (INSMET), the dawn was particularly cold in the western and central regions, from Matanzas to Ciego de Ávila, with minimum values between 55°F and 57°F.
The lowest temperature was noted at the Indio Hatuey meteorological station in Matanzas, reaching 49°F. Ruisánchez had previously forecasted this significant drop in temperatures over the weekend.
Forecast Highlights
The Forecast Center, part of INSMET, predicts a cool Sunday evening with some rain in the eastern region. Rainfall is expected to be more frequent along the northern coast of the eastern region, extending to the north-central coast by nightfall.
The bulletin noted, "In the rest of the country, expect partly cloudy skies with minimal rainfall." It also outlined that maximum temperatures would range from 77°F to 82°F, higher in the east. Nighttime temperatures are anticipated to be between 63°F and 68°F in the west and center, up to 72°F in the east, with cooler conditions in inland areas.
