Cuban Woman Shares Encounter at Miami Dollar Tree: "This Isn't Cuba"

Monday, November 25, 2024 by Albert Rivera

A Cuban woman residing in Miami, known on TikTok as Mónica Guilarte (@latoxicasoaps), recently shared an incident she experienced while shopping at a Dollar Tree for decorative paper needed for an office project. After visiting multiple stores across the city, she finally found the material she was searching for at a Dollar Tree and decided to purchase all available units, approximately 70, assuming each was priced at a dollar.

Mónica recounted that the purchase process was complicated by long lines in the store, attributed to a shortage of staff. When it was her turn, the delay continued as the cashier had to scan each item individually. Tensions escalated when Mónica noticed the cashier and a customer behind her exchanging glances and gestures that she perceived as mocking.

"So she scanned all the items, the total was adding up, and I asked, 'Why so much?' That's when she informed me they cost a dollar and twenty-five cents each. As I was getting my card out, the cashier looked at the person behind me, and they both laughed. I turned around immediately and asked, 'Is there a problem?', and looked at the cashier, who replied, 'No, no, nothing.' I'm not one to stay silent, and I made sure those indiscreet people felt embarrassed," she narrated.

Clearly upset, Mónica confronted both the cashier and the customer for their disrespect. "They need to be more discreet because anyone can make a mistake," she asserted in the video.

Calling for Better Customer Service

Additionally, the TikToker criticized the poor customer service, noting that some employees in these stores seem uninterested in their jobs due to low wages, though she clarified this does not justify unprofessional behavior. "If I'm going to spend money in your business, the least I expect is good customer service," she emphasized.

Mónica wrapped up her video with a clear message to business owners: "Wherever a person goes, there should be good customer service. This is not Cuba or any of those countries. Here, you need to work with a smile on your face."

The video sparked a wave of comments on TikTok, with many users applauding her assertiveness and highlighting the importance of demanding respect and professionalism in any commercial interaction.
