Officials in Hialeah have kicked off a special police operation for the 2024 Christmas season aimed at bolstering public safety and ensuring peace of mind for residents and visitors alike. Mayor Esteban Bovo and Police Chief George Fuente unveiled the 2024 Christmas Safety Initiative during a press conference in this South Florida city, emphasizing their commitment to crime prevention and community protection throughout the holiday period, from the Friday following Thanksgiving to New Year's Day.
This proactive plan will remain in force seven days a week without interruption. Law enforcement will conduct both day and night patrols in high-traffic areas, such as shopping centers and residential neighborhoods. Chief Fuente confirmed that all police units, including specialized teams like the K-9 Unit, motorcycle patrols, undercover squads, and rapid response units, will be on duty around the clock, strategically positioned to thwart criminal activity and respond swiftly to any incidents.
Authorities also highlighted the importance of citizen cooperation as a crucial element for the success of this initiative. "If you see something suspicious, report it," they urged.
"We want every resident and visitor to feel they can rely on us. Security is a shared responsibility, and together, we can safeguard our community," Police Chief Fuente affirmed.
Mayor Bovo reiterated that "this crime prevention effort will be executed continuously, seven days a week, through the New Year," reaffirming that "the Hialeah Police Department is dedicated to creating a secure environment for residents and visitors, allowing everyone to enjoy safe holiday shopping."
The mayor also reminded Hialeah's residents and visitors to "stay vigilant." "Let's work together to ensure a safe holiday season," he encouraged.
Officials stressed the need for citizens to remain aware of their surroundings and take extra precautions, such as safeguarding their belongings and promptly reporting any suspicious activities to local authorities. They also advised individuals to avoid leaving valuables visible in their vehicles and to exercise caution when using ATMs, particularly at night.
Hialeah, also known as "the city that progresses," will celebrate its centennial in 2025, a milestone already being marked with the recent unveiling of a specially designed logo for the occasion.
