A 46-year-old Cuban man named Yandy Sanpedro was taken into custody in Miami following accusations of sexually assaulting his girlfriend, carving his initials on her with a knife, and subjecting her to prolonged physical and psychological abuse.
According to police reports, the incident occurred on November 21, driven by Sanpedro's jealousy and accusations of infidelity against the woman. The victim and Sanpedro had been in a relationship for about a month and a half when the attack took place.
Police documents, as reported by local media, reveal that Sanpedro confronted his girlfriend after finding deleted text messages on her cell phone, accusing her of cheating. During the heated argument, he locked the bedroom door, seized her phone, and began a series of assaults while wielding a knife.
The man repeatedly struck the woman in the face, threatened her with the knife, and forced himself on her. Amid the attack, he tore off her underwear and assaulted her while continuing to examine the deleted texts. The report specifies, "For every message, he physically assaulted her."
Escalation of Violence
The situation intensified when Sanpedro coerced the victim into letting him carve his initials on her buttocks with the knife. After inscribing his initials, he further assaulted her and threatened to kill her family if she reported the incident.
Despite the threats, the victim managed to escape the residence and report the abuse to the authorities. During a hearing in Miami-Dade County's criminal court, she expressed her fear of retaliation.
Courtroom Plea and Protective Measures
"Please don't grant him bail. I'm afraid for my life. He threatened to kill me, my mother, and my siblings," the woman pleaded to Judge Mindy S. Glazer, urging that Sanpedro not be released on bail. The judge ordered that he remain in custody without bail, citing the high risk of reoffending and the potential existence of other victims. She also prohibited any contact or communication from the aggressor to the victim.
Legal Troubles and Charges
Court records indicate that Sanpedro was already on probation for a previous assault and battery case. He now faces multiple charges, including sexual battery with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and robbery. As of the time of this report, no further details about the case have been released.
